Chaitra Navratri 2026: Dates, Ghatasthapana Time, and How to Celebrate this Festival Dedicated to Maa Durga

Chaitra Navratri 2026 dates and guide. Nine goddesses, fasting rules, and how to celebrate this festival
Chaitra Navratri 2026 starts on March 19. And we get nine days, nine forms of maa Durga, and one very special purpose: to reset your life by inviting the goddess’s energy. This is the festival where the Hindu calendar begins. Spring is already doing its thing to nature and this Navratri asks you to do yours. We worship maa Durga across all nine days because she is the force that tips the balance, good over evil, clarity over confusion, strength over fear. Most people know Navratri. Fewer actually know what each day is for. That is what this guide is here for.

Ghatasthapana is installing a sacred pot (kalash) in your home. Think of this pot like a battery that holds the energy of your prayers during the festival. If you cannot do it in the early morning, the Abhijit muhurat at 11:47 am is considered to be auspicious as well.

Why Chaitra Navratri 2026 Is Astrologically Different
Most of us ask, ‘Chaitra Navratri kab hai’ (when is Chaitra Navratri), but only a few ask ‘How is it different this year?’ The planetary setup for 2026 makes this festival very devotionally charged. Sun, Venus, Saturn, and Neptune are all in Pisces during this Navratri. This combination makes the time deeply spiritual, emotionally charged, and unusually powerful for healing and forgiveness. Because Saturn is in Pisces, this Navratri rewards consistency above all else. If you skip days or do it half-heartedly, you will not get the same results. However, Rahu in Aquarius and Mercury retrograde mean distractions are high, so keep your puja steps simple and repeatable.
Venus is exalted in Pisces, which makes this particularly powerful for women, relationships, and devotion. Singing, chanting, and art-based worship are especially potent this year. The best use of this energy is for healing old wounds, forgiving people you have been holding a grudge against, and closing old cycles.

Doing Navratri for the First Time? Start Here
If you are looking at the Chaitra Navratri 2026 date and feeling overwhelmed, take a deep breath. You do not need to know every ritual perfectly. Navratri rewards sincerity more than perfection. It matters that you observe whatever you can each day with the right intention and all your heart.
-
Clean a corner of your home and place an image of Maa Durga. This is your Navratri altar. You can create this space in your puja room too.
-
Light a diya every morning and evening on all nine days.
-
Chant Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Vichche 11 times a day.
-
Wear the colour of the day. It can help you connect to the energy of each goddess.
-
On Day 8, do not miss the Sandhi Puja window.
-
Break your fast on Day 9 after the Rama Navami puja.
The Navratri Mantra
The most common mantra that you can chant during Navratri is Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Vichche. It calls to Maa Durga in all her forms, asking for her energy and protection. Traditionally, it is recommended that you chant it 108 times, but doing it 21 times with focus works just as well. To make it a bit easier and more spiritual, you can also listen to the Durga Beej Mantra on AstroSure and chant along.
Chaitra Navratri is a journey. It is okay if you make mistakes or if you cannot fast. It does not matter as much as the fact that you use these days to stop, look inward, and let go of what you do not need to carry into the year.
